Hello
Just would like to understand, is it good to plug a live serial v35 cable into a live serial port i.e with a router power on? Will it damage router hardware? or may be external csu/dsu?
If yes or no, is it the same for all other serial cables like RS232 etc.
Appreciate if Cisco can confirm that.
Regards.

hi jay
Switch off the external csu/dsu device and plug in the cable onto the serial port.

Hi Prem
Thanks. Most of the projects that i handle i will be doing a lot of hotstagin and involved testing serial ports n cables. This is the reason i would like to understand whether hot pluggin of cables is allowed in serial ports?
Tx.

as mentioned earlier by Prem, you can switch off external csu/dsu and also you can shut the serial interface of router and then plug the cable to the serial interface. once done you can then switch on csu/dsu and no shut serial interface.
