Installing new flash into 7200

Hi,

I need to install new flash into the router. The request has been to put into the 2nd slot.

Which one is the 2nd slot and how do I make sure I don't format the incorrect one?

Hi Brad

Do check whether you have any card already installed in Disk0 using show disk0:, also verify the same thing on Disk1 too.

Once you are done with that you can install the flash on the available slot which is free.

I hope you might have already have installed in Disk0 thats the reason going on for the second slot..

Once you are done with the installation you can make use of format command to format the same..

The card inserted is a 64MB card. Which card do I format now?

show version on this router tells that

router has booted with the image present in disk0:

System image file is "disk0:c7200-p-mz.123-20.bin"

It means that disk0: has goot image which is working.

Now, disk1: also has 64 MB card and have IOS, not sure if it working or not.

have you inserted card in this slot, from your original post "The request has been to put into the 2nd slot", I guess you need to format disk1. because there are 2 slots in router, first one will correspond to disk0: which has working image and second slot corresond to disk1: which also has IOS but router is coming up with the IOS loaded on disk0:

ok .....so if disk0 = slot0 then why do I see this:

Open device slot0 failed (No such device)

router can't recognize slot0 as a device, to access slot0, you need to give disk0 and to access slot1, you need to give disk1, then only router will understand the device which you are trying to access otherwise not.

You need to use Show slot when using normal PCMCIA card and show disk command when you have ATA PCMCIA card.

since you are using ATA PCMCIA cards you need to use show disk commands..

format disk1 - I will be formatting the 64MB card then?

Yes , '*' indicates the disk which is in use.
