ISR Router 4331 fail to downgrade ios image

Hello community,

I have a cisco ISR 4331 router at my client, with:

IOS image: 17.06.01a

Rommon image: 17.6.2 

I want to downgrade IOS image from 17.06.01a to 17.02.01, but I get the error: Image is not compatible with system.

Other versions i tried: 17.04.01, 17.02.01, same error.

Find the error attached below.

  - Check ROMMON compatibilities too , sometime if rommon upgrade was done to support newer versions, then 'immediate downgrade' may no longer be possible...

ROMMON can not be downgradble, the IOS downgrade and device works as expected.

i would download again image from cisco side check the MD5 checksum.

Can you also post show versios and dir  (full here)

@marce1000, @balaji.bandi, IOS-XE version 17.2.1r is not a ROMMON file.  

Apparently, someone in Cisco has decided to call 17.2.1 an "r" because it can do, get this, "routing".  (IOS XE 17.2.1r: Single again and Ready to Mingle!)
