When RD static routes into EIGRP -
Under my route-map
what does the set metric command do to the routes? Do I need this?

Each protocol uses a different metric. Lack of metric information when introducing routes into a protocol can cause adverse effects, in some cases routes will not be advertised due to lack of metric information.
If you don't want to set the metric under the route-map, you can set a global default metric under the EIGRP process.

Hi,
setting the seed metric is not mandatory for redistributing static routes or connected interfaces in EIGRP.

If you're redistributing, it will affect the AD. The set metric clause under the route map will set the metric to what you want, but the internal eigrp routes with an AD of 90 will always beat the redistributed route of 170 unless you change your external distance to 90 and then metric would come into play...
