            HI Team,

In WAN point to point links if we terminate one end in etherport and other end in serial port for 2/8Mbps conectivity in the routers, wether will it work as both ends termination types are diffrent. What should be the encapsulation we need to use for this type of links.

PLease clarify.

Thanks & Regards,

HI Mahmood, Thnaks for the reply,

ISP will take care of terminations. but in theoratical wether will it be feasible and will it work if both ends are diffrent terminations.

Naven

In practice it will not work if one end is Ethernet and the other end is serial. These are very different transport protocols and they do not inter-operate.

As Rick has noted, you can't directly connect different media technologies on the same physical link and have it work.  For example, even "pure" 100 Mbps FastEthernet won't inter-operate with "pure" 10 Mbps Ethernet.

If there is some device (or devices) "in the middle" that performs media conversion then you can use different media on the ends of a logical link.  ISPs often can provide the "in the middle" media conversion.
