I have read that :
"If router interfaces are configured in sparse mode only, a static RP address must also configured".
Can anyone recommend a document that authentiacte above ?

Cisco's newer version also allows you to have the Auto-RP feature, please read this URL

Auto-RP would actually require sparse-dense-mode if no static RP configured, wouldn't it?. But BSR feature could work even with sparse-mode.

Hi,
This is not absolutely true. you can configure sparse-mode and still run dynamically learned RP (Auto-RP).
This was made possible by the introduction of the global command "ip pim autorp listener" it allows you to run auto-rp with sparse-mode.
