Solved: VOICE GATEWAY TROUBLESHOOTING - Page 2

Hello All, One of my customers recently reported their inability to make outbound calls. The ISP has been contacted, and they have been insisting there's a loopback on the router, but I have logged on to the router and there is no loopback.

Also when i change the isdn switch type to primary net 5, If I reload the router it goes back to primary 4ess

I did a debug

If you don't see Q931 debug on outbound calls, then it isn't getting to the point where it is attempting to deliver the call to the PRI. Since this is an MGCP gateway, dial peers are not in play. You mentioned that the switch types keep changing. You need to change that in CUCM since the config is most likely downloaded from there. Changes made locally in the router will get overwritten. It sounds like CUCM is not sending the call there. You should look at the Call Manager traces in CUCM to see what is happening. You could also use DNA (dialed number analyzer) to see if the dial plan is CUCM would select this gateway based on the dialed digits.

I was made to understand that the isdn switch type on the interfaces overwrites the global isdn switch type. The isdn switch type on serial 0/0/0:15 is primary net 5, and I confirmed same with the ISP. However the global isdn switch-type is primary-4ess. I would like to confirm once more if this can affect the switchtype at the interface level.

Note that it says it is pointing at an H.323 gateway although you have said it is an MGCP gateway. That makes it sound like the route list/route group configuration does not point at this gateway.

Is this configuration to be done on the CUCM or voice gateway itself.

And I'm wondering what could have changed it, because everything was fine until my client had a power outage, and when everything came back up, they suddenly couldn't make outbound calls.

SO is this route issue you just raised to be configured at the CUCM level or the voice gateway ?

CUCM has to decide to route the call to the gateway before the gateway gets involved, so I suspect that CUCM isn't sending the call there for whatever reason. It seems very suspicious that the DNA output references an H.323 gateway when you have said it is an MGCP gateway.I don't see that you have posted the complete config of the gateway. That would be helpful to see.

This is configured as an MGCP gateway. It isn't part of the outbound path based on the DNA output you posted. It will only register with a single CUCM node which is 10.196.8.7. The secondary CUCM is listed as

mmosnigotcsub.ng1.heiway.net

but that won't work unless 145.47.188.73 can resolve that name. It doesn't appear that it can because "First Backup None" in the

show ccm-manager

output. It looks like there are multiple things wrong. The MGCP gateway isn't part of a route group that is in the route list for the outgoing call and the MGCP gateway only registers with a single CUCM node. Perhaps the CM group in the gateway config only has a single CUCM node in it. I have no idea how it got that way, but those are the obvious problems I see in the information you have given.

The issue was resolved yesterday. Just like you mentioned the MGCP gateway was not part of the route group. We added the MGCP to the route group on the CUCM and issue was resolved.
