VOICE GATEWAY TROUBLESHOOTING

ugwuugochukwuk
Level 1
Level 1

Hello All, One of my customers recently reported their inability to make outbound calls. The ISP has been contacted, and they have been insisting there's a loopback on the router, but I have logged on to the router and there is no loopback.

Also when i change the isdn switch type to primary net 5, If I reload the router it goes back to primary 4ess

I did a debug

 voip ccapi inout

and this is the output below:

This is configured as an MGCP gateway. It isn't part of the outbound path based on the DNA output you posted. It will only register with a single CUCM node which is 10.196.8.7. The secondary CUCM is listed as

mmosnigotcsub.ng1.heiway.net

but that won't work unless 145.47.188.73 can resolve that name. It doesn't appear that it can because "First Backup None" in the

show ccm-manager

output. It looks like there are multiple things wrong. The MGCP gateway isn't part of a route group that is in the route list for the outgoing call and the MGCP gateway only registers with a single CUCM node. Perhaps the CM group in the gateway config only has a single CUCM node in it. I have no idea how it got that way, but those are the obvious problems I see in the information you have given.

Hi,

You would be better off posting in the collaboration forums, however your issue is clear:

app "_ManagedAppProcess_TOLLFRAUD_APP

Call Entry(Disconnect Cause=21, Voice Class Cause Code=0, Retry Count=0)
Jan 27 13:47:52.469:

Check the following on your voice gateway:

1. Your dial peers contains the IP address you’re trying to reach is configured as a session target.

2. Add the IP address your trying to send calls  to your trusted IPV4 list.

How do I check for this ?

Hello Scott, I skipped this earlier.... I have added ip address to trusted ipv4 list and it still didn't go through

What do you mean when you said the issue I had was clear with the error below ::

app "_ManagedAppProcess_TOLLFRAUD_APP

Call Entry(Disconnect Cause=21, Voice Class Cause Code=0, Retry Count=0)
Jan 27 13:47:52.469:

What do you think is the cause of the error above ?

Thanks in anticipation .

Hello,

--> 22767 Line Code Violations, 246 Path Code Violations

The first thing I would do is check with your ISP, as these errors usually indicate some sort of physical problem.

ISP has checked and said they're seeing loopbacks pointing to the router but I checked router config and no loopbacks

Hello,

--> loopbacks pointing to the router

I am curious to find out what they mean by that. They usually can test if the circuit is clean up to their equipment.

Can you post the running config of your device ?

Hello Georg, this is the running config below

Hi,

You may need to add this, based on the call disconnecting with cause code 21.

voice service voip
ip address trusted list
 ipv4 10.196.8.6
 ipv4 10.196.8.7
 ipv4 10.196.3.7

In IOS 15.X they introducted toll fraud prevention to ensure that the gateway didn't process calls from untrusted sources.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/manual/cmeadm/cmetoll.html

If you were using H.323 or SIP, you would be using dial-peers and session targets defined there are implictly trusted. As you're using MGCP, I am not sure that's the case here. So try adding that and test again.

Hello Scott, I just added the commands and still calls can't get through

Hello,

first of all, looking at your config, I noticed the line:

--> ip default-gateway 192.168.8.19

Not sure what that is for, but remove that line.

Also, you have two static default routes:

--> ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 145.47.188.19
--> ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 145.47.188.4

I don't know what the next hops are, and what your topology looks like, but be aware that two default static routes cause all traffic to be load balanced between both routes.

As for the actual problem: did this config ever work ? One thing you could try is change the framing on the E1 controller to 'NO-CRC4'.

Also, try and change the cable for the E1 port, as line code and path violations are often, as stated, caused by layer 1 physical problems.

What router model is that anyway ?

The router model is 3945, the commands you mentioned have been on the router. I just checked the previous running config and it was there.

Hi.

I suggest you go back to the ISP and find out how the circuit is supposed to be built, e.g ISDN switch-type, framing etc as this will take away any guesswork.
Once that’s been confirmed and you have these settings configured correctly, issue the command &ldquo

show isdn status

” to confirm layer 1 through to 3 is good. You are looking for the “Multiframe Established” in the command output.
Then perhaps fix some of the config Georg identified, if applicable.

Also if you’re running MGCP, I would also check your CUCM to make sure it’s been added correctly and confirm your gateway is registered to your CUCM.

Hello Scott,

Thanks for the response.

The ISP confirmed framing is CRC4, isdn switch type is primary net5.

However this is the output from the Voice gateway:

SRST-HQ#sh isdn status
Global ISDN Switchtype = primary-4ess

%Q.931 is backhauled to CCM MANAGER 0x0003 on DSL 0. Layer 3 output may not apply

ISDN Serial0/0/0:15 interface
dsl 0, interface ISDN Switchtype = primary-net5
L2 Protocol = Q.921 0x0000 L3 Protocol(s) = CCM MANAGER 0x0003
Layer 1 Status:
ACTIVE
Layer 2 Status:
TEI = 0, Ces = 1, SAPI = 0, State = MULTIPLE_FRAME_ESTABLISHED
Layer 3 Status:
0 Active Layer 3 Call(s)
Active dsl 0 CCBs = 0
The Free Channel Mask: 0xFFFF7FFF
Number of L2 Discards = 0, L2 Session ID = 25
Total Allocated ISDN CCBs = 0
SRST-HQ#

Does it matter that  the global isdn switch is 4ess ???

Hi

Switch-Type configured at interface level supercedes what is configured at global level. Refer to this link for reference on that:

https://docstore.mik.ua/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios113ed/113t/113t_3/multisdn.htm

However, if you only have one PRI configured on the gateway, for simplicity it would be best to configure your global ISDN switch-type as Primary-Net5 too.

However, as your gateway is configured for MGCP, the call routing intelligence is in the CUCM so changing the switch-type would be done at that level. The setting you need is PRI EURO.

Did you confirm whether or not the gateway was registered to CUCM?
