FlexWan module allows you to bring WAN interfaces into a 6500 Layer3 switch, such as DS3 and OC3.
FlexWAN module has been obsoleted by SPA modules.

Hey Brad,
This is what Cisco has to say about FlexWan
"The FlexWAN module for the Cisco® 7600 Series Router and Cisco Catalyst® 6500 Series Switch enables high-performance, intelligent LAN, WAN, and metropolitan-area network (MAN) service scalability for both enterprises and service providers...."
7600 Series routers as well, so flexwan is not only for bringing WAN interfaces to Catalyst switches only?
Question again is, what FlexWan stands for?

As the name implies, FlexWAN module is used to connect WAN interfaces to a 6500/7600. I cant think of any other reason to use a FlexWAN module. I certainly dont need a FlexWAN module for LAN connections. Furthermore, most MAN connections are handed off as Ethernet, so again, I dont need a FlexWAN module for that either.
The life of the FlexWAN module is probably near its end as the new SPA modules can do WAN connections at faster speeds, higher densities, with more features.
Someone correct me if I am wrong here.
Regards,
Brad
