I had 1 port become loose and the Gbic would stay snuggly in. I put in a TAC Case and was sent a replacement chassis. Now I need to transfer all modules and license to the new chassis during a maintaince window. I am trying to come up with a step by step plan (in order) of all that needs to be done. Below is my plan with questions in parenthesis. Could some review and see if I am on the right track and provide any relevent documentation.
Thanks to all in advance.
- Check software level and upgrade or downgrade as needed
- Rack mount new chassis
- Get all license from old chassis to transfer to new one. (Not sure of steps to do this. Any advise would be appreciated.)
- Get config of old chassis
- Power down old chassis
- Swap all module to same slots, as on old one
- Swap cables, from old chassis to new chassis, 1 for 1 to same ports
- Transfer "old-config" to new chassis
- Should now have full connectivity
- Remove old chassis from rack
- Return old chassis to Cisco

Hi,
You're approach for replacing a N5996UP chassis is definetly valid.
With regards to your question on the License transfer, you can transfer the license by using the Product License Registration Tool
https://tools.cisco.com/SWIFT/LicensingUI/Quickstart
Start the license wizard and a new .lic will be generated by the system.
Alternativly you can open a TAC case to rehost you license files.
Regards,
Kristof
