I have installed this network module and i need to configure the EtherChannel, I read many documents if this module support more than 1 Gbps of traffic per EtherChannel or not?
As per the following document,
?The WS-X6148-GE-TX and WS-X6148V-GE-TX switching modules do not support more than 1 Gbps of traffic per EtherChannel.
But i can't see my module WS-X6148A-GE-TX in the document, if it is supported i need to install special IOS or what?
Thanks in advance

Hi Abd,
WS-X6148-GE-TX, WS-X6148V-GE-TX, and WS-X6148-GE-45AF do not support these features:
?More than 1 Gbps of traffic per EtherChannel
?ISL trunking
?Jumbo frames
?802.1Q tunneling
?Traffic storm control
This card needs minimum 12.2(17a)SX with sup 720 to be supported in your chassis and with WS-F6K-GE48-AF or WS-F6K-48-AF with sup 720 it needs minimum 12.2(17d)SXB
Have a look at this link

Hi Ankur,
Thanks for your post.
I have IOS version 12.2(18)SXF6 IP Services, but why it is just 1 Mbps?
Port-channel1 is up, line protocol is up (connected)

Hi Friend,
If you see the output BW is "BW 2000000 Kbit"
Description: Layer2 EtherChannel to Core-2
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 2000000 Kbit <<<<<<---
But Full-duplex, 1000Mb/s <<<<----This is speed for individual gig interface because port channel is a logical binding of interfaces and at one time one frame will always take one interface so it displays the capacity of individual interface in potr channel.

Thanks.
BW=2000000, this means that this module supports more than 1 Gbps?
But i got the following while configuring port 5 to 8 to channel-group 10
"May 9 15:48:15: %CAPI_EC-4-GROUP_RATE_LIMITED: Adding interfaces of the same port-group (1-8) on WS-X6148A-GE-TX to an etherchannel will not increase the channel throughput!"
Thanks

Hi Friend,
There is a catch here because ports on the indicated card type use oversubscription, throughput of the port channel is limited.
If more throughput is required, either use ports from a line card that does not use oversubscription, or use ports from different line cards or port-groupings on oversubscribed line cards. For example, if the line card has 48 ports in groups of eight, you can select ports 1, 9, 17, 25, 33, and 41 for the same port channel.
WS-X6148A-GE-TX is 8:1 oversubscribed. So if you would like to configure a more than 1 Gbps Ether-channel, you'll need to use one port from each of the group: 1-8, 9-16, 17-24, 25-32, 33-40, 41-48.

Hi Ankur,
Thanks alot. I configured one port from each group for the same channel group. For example, for channel group 10 ports 5,9,19,26. I did not get the warning message, it seems this is correct.
But, how can i know that this port channel aggregates 4 Gbps "ignore the BW at the show interface"?
Thanks

These guys hit it right on the nose. When configuring etherchannels on a 6500 blade, each port in the channel group needs to be in a different part of the switch backplane.
(or at least this is what I have always thought and how i've always configured it)

To further this... do you know what the oversubscription is for the WS-X6748-GE-TX and WS-X6724-SFP modules? If you were to build an etherchannel group, would you go across a card utilizing seperate ASICs, or across slots to utilize the bandwidth of each module/ASIC combination (if possible).
Thanks!
Dennis.

Hi Dennis
The WS-X6748-GE-TX has dual 20Gbps connections to the switch fabric. Considering it has 48 Gigabit ports there is some oversubscription on this card although it is fairly minimal.
The port groups for this card are as follows
Dual switch-fabric connections
Fabric Channel #1: Ports 25-48
Fabric Channel #2: Ports 1-24
? Number of ports: 48
Number of port groups: 4
Port ranges per port group: 1-12, 13-24, 25-36, 37-48
The WS-X6724-SFP has one 20Gbps connection to the switch fabric. Again there are 24 gigabit ports so there is a small amount of oversubscription.
Number of ports: 24
Number of port groups: 2
Port ranges per port group: 1-12, 13-24
