I have a brand new SGE2010 48-port switch. I initially set my computer to 192.168.1.100 and connected to the web GUI on the switch successfully using Firefox 3.6.13 on Linux. I was able to navigate through all the settings without any problems.
I updated the IP address of the switch to 192.168.100.4 and updated my computer to 192.168.100.100. At that point, I am able to connect to the GUI and access the login screen.
However, after I login, it displays the basic frame windows (Cisco image in the upper left, logout, about and help in the upper right) and promptly stops loading. None of the configuration panels load. As a result, I can't get to any of the configuration options and can't change anything. The only option is to reset the switch back to factory defaults and start over.
I have also tried accessing the web GUI via Chrome 8.0.552.237, but that has the same problem.
Any suggestions?

Any thoughts? Any advice? Anyone?

Download the ietab 2 as an addon for firefox.
Then click the firefox symbol in the bottom right corner.
This will emulate an internet explorer page.
The gui's were only designed for ie5 to ie7 support.
However good news, the new sf/sg300 series switches is both ie and firefox supported.

Uhhh, thanks. But, as I mentioned, I'm running Linux ... so IE Tab isn't something I can use - I don't have Internet Explorer nor do I have access to it. We're strictly a Mac and Linux shop.
Do the Cisco SGE2010 GUIs use ActiveX? If so, why was I able to set up the switch successfully using Firefox?

Sean,
Yeah the switches run with activex. With the sge series you can login and configure them with firefox, typically with the srw model series switches the firefox option does not work.
I haven't tried the IE tab2 in an linux environment. So your saying that since the platform is not windows, the IEtab2 dont work. I didn't know that. Its good to know.
The new switch models sf/sg300 series that cisco has released is supported on both IE and FIREFOX. So good news for future purchases.

1. Does the latest firmware for this switch allow you to use IE 8 or higher. ?
2. Are there any other reasonable solutions to this issue?
(I'm using windows 7 32bit laptop to access the switch. )

Hello Sean,

For viewing the web interface on your linux/mac based computers, maybe you could try any of these ?

Please let me know if this solved your issue, as I do not have a linux machine at my disposal now to test
Best regards,
