2951 - subnetwork configuration for 2 static IP from ISP

Hi,

Have a 2951 router connected to 2 200-26p switches.

The ISP comes in via Fibre on interface 0/1.  0/0 & 0/2 are connected to each switch.

The router uses a public Static IP provided by the ISP.

Need to add a new 2951 router to this configuration that will use another static IP from the ISP.

The trick is:  The new router won't be in the same physical location as the router and 2 switches.

The new 2951 will be in a remote location on the physical network.

Haven't done this before.  I think the process here would be:

setup a subnetwork on port 0/1 and 0/0 of the existing 2951 router.

setup an additional network/trunk on the switch.  One port on the switch to be connected to the new 2951.

The thing I'm unclear on is how to specifically configure ports 0/0 and 0/1 on the existing router to allow traffic to pass cleanly through from the ISP gateway to the new router, which will have the ISP's additional Static IP configured on it.  Any ideas how to accomplish this?

Thanks.

Hello Kevin,

Is the new static IP a WAN address?

Cheers.

Yes, it's a static public IP address from the ISP for WAN

Hi Kevin,

This is an unusual setup.

Supposing this new static IP will come with a VLAN tag from ISP, you could configure an EFP on 0/1 and 0/0 interfaces and associate them with a bridge-domain.

So you allow this VLAN on the switch trunk interfaces and configure the new IP address on the dot1q subinterface of the new router.

Cheers.
