I have attempted to upgrade my WS-C2960CG-8TS-L switch to IOS 15.2 (c2960c405-universalk9-mz.152-4.E.bin).  When trying to boot to that IOS version my switch gets stuck at:

...

File "flash:c2960c405-universalk9-mz.152-4.E.bin" uncompressed and installed, entry point: 0x3000 executing...

I do not see anything after this.

Greetings,

I don't use 2960C but here are some general suggestions.

Did you verify the new bin file before installing? (verify /md5 flash:c2960c405-universalk9-mz.152-4.E.bin)

There may have been a corruption during the copy process. You'll know if the MD5 hash is different from the expected MD5 found in the download section for that file on Cisco.com.

If you can break the boot process and still have the previous IOS on flash: you can try booting it. Then you can verify the new bin file before trying again.

If you don't have old IOS than you can still break the boot process to try and copy the IOS file again with xmodem.

Good luck,

JF

Thanks!  The issue was actually the wrong image.  I needed one with an ex after the c405.  Took way too long to figure it out.  It's a bit strange that there was no error that I could find.

I know this is a really old thread....but:
I uploaded also a wrong file to the switch.
How to get the switch to boot the old, correct version still in flash?
The "mode button" procedure does not seem to work
Is the reset button at the back neede?
I cannot find any documentation about this specific model on the cisco website?!?

Thanks,
Christian

turn off the device and connect the console cable - Turn on the switch

- hold mode button for 15 seconds

-  boot into rommon mode   >

-  flash_init

-  dir flash:

- check the IOS was wrong and also check any other IOS in the folder - so you can boot with right image.
