Greetings,
Its looking like I have bad flash in an old 3560G. 'flash_init' fails as per below. And when I try to format, it displays the question on y/n but doesn't give me an option to answer... it just exits...
Any hints on what I can do? Is the flash user replaceable (I'm an EE)? Or other options?
Thanks,
Pax.

ok, I got further... one problem was user error - flag to send cr/lf was set... that was causing the apparent 'n' to the format command.
However I now get:
switch: format flash:

I believe your Flash is Dead, do you have contract with Cisco so raise an TAC case for RMA.
If i were you i try other option -
1. dir flash:
2. delete the exiting image ( that proves you able to delete )
3. From Xmodem you copy another version of image to Switch.
4. Boot with new image
5. once it boot with new image successfully,
6. change the boot varilable and boot againg and test.
post the outcome.

Sadly I think you are correct - dead flash. And no contract.
switch: dir
List of filesystems currently registered:
flash[0]: (read-write)
xmodem[1]: (read-only)
null[2]: (read-write)
bs[3]: (read-only)
switch: dir flash:
unable to stat flash:/: invalid argument
switch: dir xmodem:
unable to stat xmodem:/: invalid argument
switch: dir null:
unable to stat null:/: invalid argument
switch: dir bs:
unable to stat bs:/: invalid argument
switch: help dir
Usage for “dir” is:
dir <directory>
switch: dir flash
unable to stat flash/: no such device
switch: dir bs
unable to stat bs/: no such device
switch: dir null
unable to stat null/: no such device
switch: dir bs
unable to stat bs/: no such device

if i were you i replace with one of refubished kit available with cisco partner or ebay, since you do not have contract.
