Hello wonderful people.
I have just started at a new company and been given the opportunity to migrate a single 3750 to a Nexus N3K-C3172TQ-10GT for a customer. I really want to take this on or how am I going to improve as an engineer.
While I am familiar with the 3750 platforms, I have never configured a Nexus.
The spec I was given for the Nexus are as followed, which I will be researching but haven’t got a clue what they are at the moment but will do when I look them up later today.
1x. - N3K-C3172TQ-10GT. - Nexus 3172T 48 x 1/10GBase-T and 6 QSFP+ ports
1x. - QSFP-40G-CSR4. - QSFP 4x10GBASE-SR Transceiver Module, MPO, 300M
1x. - FTC-OM3-08FLCMTP-03. - 3mtr MTP (Male) -LC (Dx) 8F OM3 Breakout cable – Aqua
5x. - CVR-QSFP-SFP10G. - QSFP to SFP10G adapter (adapter to SFP+ and SFP)
5x. - GLC-SX-MMD-AO. - AddOn/Prolabs: Cisco Compatible 1000BASE-SX SFP Transceiver
I wanted to ask the community for any advice especially if anyone has done this process already.
Also, any guidance on what to look out for, material I should read or watch would be great.
I have asked to get the 3750 config in advance so I can configure the Nexus before attending the site. Which virtual platform would be best to do a proof of concept on?
At the moment I don’t know what is connected to the 3750 also I haven’t been given a timeline for when this needs to be carried out but it will be soon, I was told.
Any help would be appreciated.

You can use cisco CML/VIRL or Opensource PNETLab (https://pnetlab.com/)
you can practice command syntax

Thanks for your input much appreciated.
I'm still awaiting more information from the customer in relation to this migration to get a better picture of what needs to be done. Until then it will give me some time to lab up and get some practice with NEX-OS code.

Hello,
once you have figured out how to physically connect everything, Cisco has made the IOS to NX-OS conversion really easy with the:
IOS-NXOS Configuration Conversion Tool

Hi Georg,
This is great to know and could be a life server and a means of a back-up measure if I get stuck, as I want to try to configure from the ground up. This will definitely be useful as a reference tool for when/if I get stuck.
I will spin up a lab and do a config in IOS and try out the Conversion Tool and apply it to a virtual Nexus.
Thanks a lot.
P.S. I will keep this post open for a bit in case I get stuck on my NEX-OS migration adventure, instead of opening a new ticket.

Just checked out the Conversion Tool and it for converting 6500 and 4900 to NX-OS.
