3850 license question

Hi guys,

I have a stack of 4 x 3850s running 3.6.10E. License is permanent IP Services.

Question is, if I upgrade to 16.12.10, what will happen to this RTU license? I need to use object groups and this version does not seem to support that function. I do not want to use Smart licensing as this is on loan from vendor until new 9300s arrive.

as per the mentioned situation, i would stick to 3.X version which supports object groups. (if not supported on 3.x version - been a long time worked on cat 3850) - I am sure some version support object groups some not... or move 16.12 with smart license (its just a compliance issue) you can use 90days officially with out registering and also works later too.

but you can use that features until cat 9300 arrives.

Hi Balaji,

No, as mentioned, object-group is not supported in that version. I need to have that as there are tons of ACLs with grouping needed for many interfaces for a new implementation project. So wondering what will happen to existing permanent license.

you can convert to PAK to a smart License - it is easy to process and the cisco license team can help you with that.

Do not, under any circumstances, upgrade to 16.X.X.

3.6.X is extremely stable.  Stay on it.

@Leo Laohoo , do you know which version in 3.6.x can support network object-groups?

Please re-think the design.

3650/3850 does not have the CPU nor the memory to handle a long lists of ACL.

Even if the switch loads a 16.X.X that can support Object-Group, the switch/stack will need to be reloaded every 2 to 4 months because 16.X.X will memory-leak in the control-plane.

@Leo Laohoo any version in 3.x.x can support object-group?
