3850 Switch Software Clean

Jay_Work

Trying to clear some space on my 3850 switch in a stack. I use Prime to roll out images but its telling me that there is insufficient space in flash, so I try to use the smart flash delete before distribution option but that also fails. I have also Putty'd onto the switch to run the software clean command but it told me there was nothing to clean. I've tried deleting some files manually but more reluctant to do this in case I manage to distribute the files onto the flash via Prime and reboot and fails.

This is the message undr software clean:

No unnecessary package or provisioning files found. Nothing to clean

Any ideas how I can clear some space on the flash?

Hi there,

I'd check for .bin files in the stack flash, as the request command simply deletes the .pkg files which are not referenced in the packages.conf boot file.

cheers,

Seb.

Hi checked and there are no .bin files - any further ideas?

can you post the dir flash : so we can see exactly whats there and what can be removed

ive been running PI for years , that software push out has never worked right especially over WAN and even over our 10GB LAN we had issues with it , ended up using a cheaper piece of software that works fine , the feature always seemed bit buggy no matter what revision we used

Contents of directories.

Can you post of the output of dir flash: on one of these switches?

hi, sorry for the late reply had a bit of a disaster with 1x of the switches. they are back to the state they were earlier. here is an extract of the flash-1 and flash-2:

i just did a software clean file flash-2: and deleted the .bin file but still Prime says insufficient free space on flash-2. I suspect it will not upgrade via this method.

I don't recommend using Prime Infrastructure to do software update.

why? I have always used Prime and its been ok apart from this occasion when there is no space in flash.

Hi Jay_F,

i think you have to make a sync in prime after cleaning the flashes, or wait for the automatically sync. After that prime says flash is fine.

Otherwise your problem looks like a part of my problem. I want to upgrade 36xx systems from 16.12.1 to 16.12.4 > all flashes are clean but the place is not enough to copy and install the new image! My workaround is to delete nvram_config_bkup to become the space but this is not so good for ~1k systems an no automatism for that - have anybody ideas?

PS: I use PI in Version 3.6 to manage all of my systems

thanks

Michael
