4510 dual SUP 7E IP base license issue

Not sure if the following is an issue or if I am overlooking something.

I am deploying two 4510 with dual SUPs.

One is running IP base and has SSO, I want to run that on the second switch as well, for this you obviously need IP base.

I have activated and installed the IP base license that came with one of the SUP.here is the output:

hostnaME#license install bootflash:FOX1111GEC1_20100000232016104.lic

Installing licenses from "bootflash:FOX111GEC1_20100000232016104.lic"

Installing...Feature:ipbase...Successful:Supported

1/1 licenses were successfully installed

0/1 licenses were existing licenses

0/1 licenses were failed to install

As the output above shows ip base  has been installed.

Yet I still do not have the redundancy mode sso command available, when I check the feature set on this switch it still says that IPBase is not enabled:

WW-SUN-HO-ASW01#show license feature

Note: Built-in evaluation license cannot be cleared

Feature Name        Enforcement  Evaluation  Clear Allowed  Enabled

--------------------------------------------------------------------

entservices         true         true        true           false

ipbase              true         false       true           false

lanbase             false        false       true           true

internal_service    true         false       true           false

I cant remember the exact command but one of the show license commands show LAN Base; In Use   and IP Base; Not in Use

I am suspecting that it might have to do with the fact that I am running the license only based on the PAK for one SUP?  Can I force it to to use IP base?

Also note that the switch that does have IP base uses the exact same Image as the one that doesnt.

show license all

show license image level

You may have clear idea with the outputs, and compared with your 2 switches.

also pay atten to the license boot level.

looking at your output, you have he lanbase license enabled, not the ipbase license.

to enable the ipbase license enter the following configuration;

conf t

licence boot level ipbase

exit

wr mem

then reboot the switch, the IP base license should then be enabled.

Thanks Derek,

reseating the SUP worked and forced to IP Base after the IP Base boot level was hard set

Hi,

4500X, WS-X45-SUP7L-E, WS-X45-SUP7-E and the new SUP8  licenses used to be one license per chassis and the license was tied to  the serial number of the chassis.  Recently Cisco changed some policies  on licensing with the latest software update and as of IOS XE 3.4.xSG  and later the licenses are now Right to Use (RTU).  This means you wont  have to go through the painful PAK activation process and tie the PAK to  the serial number of the chassis and then apply the license to the  chassis etc.  But you do have to be running the new IOS version for this  to work.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/release/note/OL_27990-01.html

"Cisco IOS XE Software Release 3.4.2SG introduces the Permanent Right-to-Use (PRTU) license feature."

This is brand new so if anyone gets a chance to test it out please update us.  Thanks!
