After Catalyst 1000 write erase, can't login now, what's the password now?

I've got 3 new switches, and i'm trying to go through setup instructions. So far, the instructions attach a laptop (where it gets a DHCP IP and then access the web GUI at 10.0.0.1 or 10.0.0.3 Isn't working at well (PC never gets the DHCP address) I've managed to get 1 of them configured using the console cable on my second switch. On the first one, I decided to just try and reset it to default, and used the command "write erase" to reset the switch. After reboot/reload, it's asking for a username/password, and none of the defaults I've tried seems to work (cisco/cisco),  blank password, etc.

Anyone have any tips here on how to recover this 1 catalyst 1000 switch that is now a brick for me?

The model, if it matters, is Cisco C1000-48T-4G-L.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, I took a risk, and it paid off.

I found that the flash:config.text file looked like it was the startup-config.

so, I made a backup of that file, and deleted it. then booted the switch. It thankfully, ran through a initial setup config, via the console cable. So, i've successfully recovered this switch. Thanks for the tips.

Thank you Richard for the link. I reviewed all of it, but it seems like it assume you can get a prompt. I'm unable to get a console terminal prompt. With the console cable attached, after startup, it immediately just asks for Username and Password, and every 3 times, clears the console history, and goes back to asking for a Username and password. I don't have a prompt at which i can even type enable.

Do I need to try and catch it during boot to get into some kind of recovery?

Yes the password recovery process described in that link does involve booting the Catalyst and interrupting the boot process.

Richard, I did catch it at boot, but can't figure out how to set a password. The link you sent only had a single sentence for password recovery:
"By default, any end user with physical access to the switch can recover from a lost password by interrupting the boot process while the switch is powering on and then by entering a new password."

I can't figure out the "entering a new password" part.

Here's all the commands I have at the interrupted boot prompt. Any ideas?

switch: ?
? -- Present list of available commands
boot -- Load and boot an executable image
cat -- Concatenate (type) file(s)
copy -- Copy a file
delete -- Delete file(s)
dir -- List files in directories
eeprom -- eeprom dump / display / save
espi -- espi readkey
format -- Format a filesystem
help -- Present list of available commands
memcpy -- Copy from file to memory
memdump -- Dump memory
memory -- Present memory heap utilization information
mkdir -- Create dir(s)
more -- Concatenate (display) file(s)
nand -- nand utility - check bad blocks
rename -- Rename a file
reset -- Reset the system
rmdir -- Delete empty dir(s)
set -- Set or display environment variables
sleep -- Pause (sleep) for a specified number of seconds
type -- Concatenate (type) file(s)
unset -- Unset one or more environment variables
version -- Display boot loader version

switch: version
C1000 Boot Loader (C1000-HBOOT-M), Version 15.2(7r)E RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

what options are available for the set command?

Thanks for the update. Glad to know that you have resolved your issue. +5 for describing for other participants how you solved it. That is very helpful.

marce1000, I mentioned in my original post I tried cisco/cisco. Didn't work.

I'm using the console cable, and after the switch boots, it's just asking for username and password, over and over. I never get a prompt.

Any other default credentials it could be?
