C3560E & 'IP Routing'

zak.humphries

Level 1

Can anyone please assist with an issue I am having with a c3560E

I am trying to enable layer 3 routing on this switch, but the IP routing command is unavailable e.g 'IP ?' doesn't list it. I'm using the "c3560e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE1.bin" image and according to the Cisco Feature Navigator IP routing is available on this model. Can anyone point in the right direction for what im doing wrong???

Cheers

Zak

Hi

Yes the the 3560X is a licence based model.

ie there are three licenses.

Lan-base

Ip-base

Ip-services

WS-C3560-24P-L = Lanbase (the L in the end) this is a L2 device.

This means amongst other things that it can not do ip routing due to the licensing.

If you want to do routing with the Lanbase then you need to upgrade it with a new license to minimum IP-base.

Please grab a new licence and after relaod u shld be fine

Hi,

Guy, you're using LAN BASE license.  You need to upgrade it.

Hi Zak,

Please post the output of "show running and show ip route". Please try "no ip routing". Does this command show up in running configuration? If yes then do "ip routing" again.

You should be able to enable routing from global config mode

config t

ip routing

Thanks for the replies.

IP Routing is simply not avaialble as a command (from global conf).

#ip routing

Hmmm.. I did find some information on having to licence featues, some new cisco activation thing. Looking at my licence information I think this could be the problem. My understanding from the licence FAQ is that the 3560E comes pre-licensed with ipbase?? Any ideas

Hi,

  You should try this:

Switch#config terminal

Switch(conf)#ip routing

HTH,

Toshi

Sorry I am doing it from global conf I just copy and pasted from the wrong screen!!

(config)#ip routing

                ^

% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

Hi Zak,

   Please try commands as follows:

Switch(conf)#no ip routing

Does it allow you to type above command?

Please post the output of "show sdm prefer" , "show running" and "show ip route"

Toshi

Its a brand new swtich that has no config on yet..

Cheers

Zak

(config)#no ip routing
