C6807-XL | VSS | Line Cards not getting up automatically after reload

Muhammadnawaz

Level 1

Hi,

can anyone please help to get this issue fixed, I have C6807-XL Modular Switch, and trying to make them single unit however, SW-B is working fine, and SW-A is not working properly, when I finish the VSS configurations on SW-A it required reload. after reload switch went into rommon mode and I have to putt the  'Rommon 1> boot'  manually to make the both line cards up. Line card 3 works automatically sometime, but line card 4 will always required boot command.

when the line card finishes the boot process it came up with normal router, and when we reload the switch again it requires the manual boot command to get up and work normal, after this switch is out of the configurations that I configured very recently.

*Jan 1 02:58:03.591: % Secondary config IOCTL failed

Warning: The nvram is either corrupted or uninitialized. Initialize the nvram by executing the command 'erase /all nvram:' after bootup.

During the bootup, does this error message show up in the logs?

Hi Leo,

thanks again for your time, yes following output we see during the bootup process...

Let me translate what that error message says:  Line card in slot 1 is "disabled" because manual FPGA upgrade required to line card in slot 1.

You know what the command is to perform the manual FPGA upgrade.

@Leo Laohoo  I am afraid to say don't know the procedure of the FPGA cause am doing this first time, however if you have steps to perform specifically in this case please share with me I will follow that one. thank you.

I have already provided the command to perform the manual FPGA upgrade in your previous thread (LINK).  Did anyone bother reading it?

Hi @Leo Laohoo

I follow the procedure of FPGA you recommended, but its fail when I run the following commands, and do you why Module 4 went into rommon mode and I have to command boot to bring it back.  is there any solution please ?

as switch is not in VSS mode yet so I follow the commands pattern written for non VSS switch.

upgrade winters-flash slot 1 bundled-image gold

upgrade winters-flash slot 1 bundled-image

hw-module module 1 reset

Router#upgrade winters-flash slot 1 bundled-image gold
Router#upgrade winters-flash slot 1 bundled-image gold
You are about to upgrade FPGA. Module will go for reset.
There is risk of losing VSL/RSL links during upgrade.
Image upgrade will take few minutes.
Do not power-cycle / reload / remove the module during upgrade.
Are you sure to proceed?[confirm]
Update process complete. Result: FAIL
