I got an stack with two C9200. One C9200-24P-E, and one C9200-48T-E.

This stack runs in install-mode, with software version 17.03.03.

I have tried to copy new BIN-file to flash: and then run the "install add file flash:*******.bin activate commit".

This fails due to insufficient space on switch-2.

I have also tried to run the install directly from usbflash0:, but with the same result.

As you can see, there are no BIN files from before that I can delete. Also ran "install remove inactive" to clear away any installation that is not in use.

now I got the error message that the BIN file was corrupt

I redownloadet the config-file from Cisco and did a MD5-check :

These checksum is correct!!!

After rerunning the install-command i got these fail again :

One last trick:

Copy the BIN file into each stack member.
Change the boot variable string to point to the BIN file (instead of packages.conf).
Boot the switch into Bundle Mode.
If successfully boot into 17.3.4 (Bundle Mode), clean up the flash.
Invoke Install Mode.
Change the boot variable string to point to the packages.conf
Boot the stack again.
Clean up the flash.

Maybe I'm asking stupid now, but by "clean up the flash" do you mean manually delete packages.conf and all * .pkg files?

I have never seen this bug for a long time.
What is the uptime of the switch when it was in 17.3.3?

Sorry I have not answered before, have been gone a few days.
This upgrade was only on two of my spare switches. These two have not been in production, and came with 17.3.3 from Cisco. The reason I am running this test is that I have two similar stacks in production running on 16.12.1, which have also failed with this upgrade to 17.3.4. Therefore, I would test this again, but not in production. So now I'm thinking of testing your solution on the stacks that are in production.

My "solution" is only when the "install mode" command fails.

I have seen this bug on 3850 running 3.7.X with a very high uptime (>1 year). Never seen this (until now) with 16.X.X or 17.X.X.

If this still does not work, export the config externally (to the USB thumb drive), break the stack, perform an emergency-install and then import the config back.

Starting the stack in BUNDLE-mode went OK in to the 17.3.4.

Then i run "install remove inactive"

Change into INSTALL-mode then also went OK, and the stack successfully reboots with the new OS.
