C9500-24Q | 1G/10G CVR

Hello,

I was hoping that someone could help find out if I could use this CVR: CVR-QSFP-SFP10G= and the proper 1GE/10GE SFP to operate a port at the 1G/10G speed on the this switch model: C9500-24Q.

I was able to find this document which confirms that this particular CVR does support the 1G/10G SFPs when used on the C9600 switch, however, for confirmation sake, I'd like to know if this CVR can also be used on the C9500-24Q switch.

Thanks in advance.

@Reza Sharifi .... I found this Cisco document and it does confirm that the C9500-24Q supports both 1G and 10G with the use of the CVR.

Hint: Search under: C9500-24Q.

Thanks.

Hi,

According to the release notes, it appears to be supported:

See link for more info:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst9500/software/release/16-10/release_notes/ol-16-10-9500.html

  • Supported transceiver module product numbers—SFP-10G-LR-X, SFP-10G-SR-X

  • Compatible switch models— C9500-12Q (requires CVR-QSFP-SFP10G), C9500-16X, C9500-24Q (requires CVR-QSFP-SFP10G), C9500-40X

  • Compatible network modules—C9500-NM-8X, C9500-NM-2Q with CVR-QSFP-SFP10G.

Thanks for the info. This is very helpful.

This confirms that the C9500-24Q switch model supports 10Gb by using the CVR-QSFP-SFP10G converter adapter and the supported 10Gb SPF; however, would this CVR-QSFP-SFP10G CVR also support a 1Gb SFP?

The compatibility matrix https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/?npid=189 shows that the C9500-24Q switch model supports several 1Gb SFPs including this one GLC-SX-MMD. One would only assume that since this matrix shows that the C9500-24Q switch model supports the 1Gb SFPs, then in order to convert the native 40Gb rate speed to 1Gb rate speed on the C9500-24Q, the CVR-QSFP-SFP10G CVR and the GLC-SX-MMD would be required. Would this be accurate?

CVR-QSFP-SFP10G with 1GB SFP works as expected in Cat 9500 and tested- MMD only (not MM.).

make sure you have the latest firmware also like 17.X in case of any issues.

Yes, it appears to be so according to this line in the document. To be sure, you may also want to verify it with your Cisco sales rep or SE.

Good Luck!
