Cannot Telnet to 2960G switch after firmware upgrade

Hello All

I recently upgraded a 2960G switch to the latest firmware, version file c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-55.SE10.bin and after the reload the switch operates "properly" as in devices connected to the switch work on the network however I cannot access the switch via Telnet or ping its interface IP.  I'm not sure what is going on here so I consoled in, deleted all the files, wiped the config, uploaded a new downloaded file of the same firmware and re applied the config and I still cannot ping or telnet it.  CDP shows the other switch uplink on both the affected switch and the uplinked switch.  Anyone got any ideas?

See if the VTP password and the vtp domain name is there and matches the other currently installed devices .  Also make sure your connecting trunk is working correctly .

Is the vlan interface that has the switch IP address UP and UP?

If you downgraded IOS to the previous version is it then ok?

Hey Richard, so i administratively shutdown Vlan 1, don't use it on any on my switches

i use Vlan100 ,  a sh int shows it is up, line protocol is up

I can try and downgrade the IOS tomorrow.

Hi,

Is the default-gateway configured correctly on the switch?

Thanks

John

That's an embarrassing oversight on my part.  I just pasted the config thinking the default gateway would have been configured. The  default gateway is now configured however the switch won't pull the VTP Domain information from the VTP Server switches.

Correct it was the VTP Password.

When updating the firmware I also removed the vlan.dat file

I ran the command "delete /force /recursive flash:"

The original firmware file was located inside a directory so this was the easiest way to remove it quickly. After the reload the VLAN and VTP info had to be rebuilt.

I rebuilt the switch from scratch and it seems that the default gateway is not required if the VTP is setup properly.

Thanks Guys.

Edit: the VTP Version had to be set correctly as well. It was defaulting to Version 1. Had to set it to Version 2 as that is what our Server Switch is set at.
