Hi All,
I am going to be installing a few 9300 switches at my location and I am looking for a guide or information about activating the inbuilt WLC on this platform.
Does anyone have any guides or information on how to activate this feature set? I have come up empty on my searches. I am thinking it has something to do with the install command but I cannot find the right combo to get it working.

Hi John,
according to this document https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/9800/config-guide/b_wl_16_10_cg/wireless-sub-package.html you can install the Wireless subpackage but need a DNA Center for provisioning and deployment. I hope this will change so we can use it as a standalone controller.
"Note: Cisco Catalyst 9800 Wireless Controller software on the Cisco Catalyst 9300 switches must be provisioned and deployed on the switch using Cisco DNA Center, and it cannot be configured as a standalone controller."
Regards,
Jens

Hi All,
This has changed and is available in 17.3.1 IOS-XE now to run the WLC as a standalone (NON-SDA) controller

I am re-reading the 9300 Release Notes for 17.3.1 and I don't see this information anywhere.
Is this them "undocumented feature"?

Hi Leo,
Don't get too exited this still does a form of fabric wireless and uses VxLAN but it does not require DNA-C to be deployed and is classed as non-SDA

Need to update this old thread since google thinks it's important. Embedded WLC on 9300 support (non-SDA) ends after 17.3. It is still supported for SDA deployments with Cisco DNA:
