Cisco 3500XL

I am trying to configure a 3500XL switch (and I know its old). I get to the int fa 0/1 line and thats where it all stops working.

switch#(config-if)#switchport mode access

switch#copy run start

or

switch#(config-if)#switchport mode access

switch#sh run int fa 0/1

It will show the configuration for port fa 0/1 as if I hadnt entered the "switchport mode access" command. Or any other command for that matter.

Any ideas why the switch is not holding configuration and seemingly loses it as soon as you exit out of each interface?

Jerome

HI,

Also Please let us know the software version running on the switch?

Second provide the show tech/run config from the device? Does all other config appers on the switch?

"switchport mode access" is a default command in the 3500XL switches and as such is not displayed. The 3500XLs were released prior to Cisco moving to dynamic desirable being the default mode.

Hi all,

Thanks for your responses, I have now fixed the issue. I updated the software - which fixed all issues I was having. I would have done this earlier, but the switch is only a very temporary solution so I didnt want to spend too much time on it.

Thanks for your assistance.
