Hello, I'm planning an upgrade and need to know if it can be done without downtime. We have 2 4500's in a VSS running 03.07.01.E and wanting to go to 3.11.1.
Can someone tell me the procedure and if I need to follow a certain path.
thanks

You can go directly from 03.07.01.E to 3.11.1. but you need a maintenance window, as you would need to reboot both chassis at the same time. The boot time is about 15 minutes.

Have a look at this post
This is for 4500x but you should be able to do the same with 4500 VSS.

Read the Release Notes very, very carefully.
To upgrade a VSS pair to 3.11.X, the ROMMON must be upgraded.
In regards to procedures, have a look at THIS.

Hello Netad,
I can see that you are looking to perform the upgrade on 4500 VSS with minimum downtime indeed 0 downtimes. You can use the ISSU method to achieve the same. I am sending you the compatibility matrix as well the procedure to perform an upgrade on the 4500 VSS using the ISSU method,.
The ISSU code compatibility matrix:

HI,
I think @Leo Laohoo has shared a good guide and I am also using the same. I tried with ISSU but only 30% - 40% success rate and will take more time.
