Cisco 6509-E SUP always goes to romon mode

Hi,

We have two 6509-E with VS-S720-10-3C but not in a virtualize environment.

One of the core suddenly goes offline and couldnt able to boot from rommon.( this is the input i got from the resident engineer as the site is in remote)

I might be traveling in a week for this but just need to know if someone face the same issue

I have attached 2 pic of error

kindly let me know the issue

Thanks.

Regards,

Yasir

Hi,

This looks to be caused due to a faulty NVRAM battery. Since it is showing the % Error opening nvram:/ifIndex-table No such file or directory

The low battery causes the contents of the NVRAM (where the config is saved) to be erased when it is powered down for periods of time.

Unfortunately there is no way to replace just the NVRAM battery. You may get the entire supervisor replaced.

Hope this helps.

I think you are right but it can be only confirm by TAC.

I already posted the output in this blog.

Once we renew the smart net then will send to cisco.

Good for us that we have redundant core otherwise it will be disaster situaltion

To me it looks like the config register may not be right and it's tryin to pull the config from the network instead of nvram . Just something to verify, it could be faulty sup card.

during the troubleshooting , i did change the config-register value but the result was same

Yesterday, i visited the site and foun out that there is crash info and unfortunately we dont have smart net covered of one the core.

Below is the error i got when i tried to boot it up with different IOS

we will be covering this core under smart net but in the mean time , can anyone tell me that what is the reason?

hi..

it looks like a hardware issue.

just try this..

try ignoring the startup config by changing the confreg in rommon (2142 - if i remember on top of my head).. if it doesnt work, then there is no other optiion left..

But, i guess, you will get a replacement part with this crashinfo posted in the TAC case.
