Hi Cisco community, I have a question regarding DAC with 40 and 100 Gig. Is it possible to "mix&match" Cisco switches with Dell switches? Details: - Switch A: Nexus C93240YC-FX2 - Swtich B: Dell S5248F DAC: QSFP-100G-CU2M= or QSFP-H40G-CU2M= Thank you and kind regards Nils Hanstein

hi
Yes that was kinda of my answer there is no official answer on either of its documentation sections since both companies have pulled away from each other recently and dont work together anymore , Cisco don't even build the blade servers with Dell in the DC anymore so there will unlikely be an official link stating they work together , Dell started their own fabric to take on the UCS since then they have split partnering on enterprise equipment

but if someone has tested this you may find out that way or if you check what the IEEE standard both are using for the DAC cables, if they match it should work , it will always be unsupported though from both vendors but we have done it before matching IEEE standards as there usually general between vendors

I dont think your going to find a DOC that starts these two will work together when there both supplying their own type QSPF cables that are identical

Hi
i havent tested this don't use Dell but if you look at the data sheet it doesn't really state interoperability between the two but then if you go to buy the cable on this website looks to be exact same cable and specs on each page , once its running same ieee should be fine but i would check with vendor your purchasing it off , should be able to tell you as well

Hi Mark,
thank you for your answers.
But the question was if Cisco DACs (and Cisco Nexus switch) is interoperable with the Dell switch?
Can we use this?
Neither Cisco nor Dell has an official statement on their homepage.

i was able to confirm in our DC that Dell servers support the Cisco DAC cable no problem , some of them are connectedto our 5 and 9ks by 7mtr DACs , i know its not switches but shows some hope they will work
