connect access point to power injector and to PoE switch port

Hi,

If we connect access point to power injector and to PoE switch port ( access point - power injector - PoE switch port with PoE enable )

Do it cause any problem?

Hello Jackson,

No problems would be caused, the device should only draw the power it needs. The question is which power source takes precedence, and does the order of play a role in which power source is being used.

I would guess that the power injector would take precedence over the POE switchport no matter what, but that is just my guess.

  I guess the question is why would you do that if you have a POE switch , get rid of the power injector .

For example, If we have Cisco Aironet 2800 Series which is requires POE+ for operating at full performance, but some old switch can't supply power more than 15W. So we need power injector for AP as their power source. This is some case that I saw in my real work.

It won't cause a problem because the AP will get power from the injector.

You can also disable the POE in the access port -

exit
