Console unresponsive, outputting odd characters. I know, again...

I have a second-hand Catalyst 3550 which I am having trouble connecting to with a console cable. Please bear with me, I'm very new to this. I know similar things have come up before but I haven't had any joy.

I'm using PuTTY on a Windows 10 laptop with a USB-Serial cable connected to a Cisco console cable at 9600 baud. This works on another two switches and two routers. On the 3550 it is very unresponsive when trying to type. It seems that it receives commands but doesn't display most characters. If I hold the keys down they show up, but this seems to duplicate the letter.

See above various attempts at set, unset BAUD, flash_init. As far as I can see it seems to boot OK, but is similarly unresponsive and confused in output. I've tried following configuration reset steps but it appears to freeze; at least it stops updating anything on the console. I saw somewhere mention of jumpers, but I can't find anything more than this.No chance of a hardware reset, is there? If you're able to offer any advice please don't skip any steps. I haven't done this before and if you don't mention something then I won't know to do it. I have only been able to connect by console, I don't know how the telnet works. This is all of my typing, but below is the switch output from booting and some input attempts. Thanks for trying, good luck!

Seeing the title of the post describe odd characters of console output made me think that this was probably a case where the speed of the console connection had been changed. This is generally pretty easy to fix - you change the speed of the connection for your terminal emulator starting at 1200, working through 2400, 4800, perhaps up to 115000.

However most of the output shown in the post seems to be pretty clear when it is booting and just displaying the boot messages. So I am not sure that it is really a change in speed of the console. You might try the various speeds, just to be sure, but it may be that you are dealing with something other than a console speed issue.

Thank you Rick. I did try working through the speeds, but none work better than 9600; some work worse. It does sound a bit like people have described for incorrect connection speeds but I have been unable to implement any of the suggested fixes as it's difficult to see outputs.

I've the same issue with a 2951 Rtr.

This seems different from the original post. Where the original post had lots of output that was readable characters, this output has no readable characters in its output. So this looks more like a case where the console speed of the device does not match the speed set in the terminal emulator. So I would suggest that you try various speeds in your terminal emulator starting at 1200 and working up through alternatives 2400 4800 9600 to 115000.
