It was my understanding that the SFP+ Slots in the 2960-X Switches would support the 1000BaseLX SFP's as well as the 10G SFP+ modules. I have installed a 1000Base LX SFP in both my 4503 switch and my 2960-X Switch and I can only get a link on the 2960-X side, the 4503 will not give me a link at all.
Is there anything special I need to configure on the 2960-X to tell it that I am using a 1Gb module rather than 10 Gb? The SFP's show up on both switches correctly in a show interface output.

Upgrade the IOS of the 2960-X to EX4.
This behaviour is due to an IOS bug with previous codes. Don't ask "why". You don't want to know the answer.

Hi NPT
From the 1g transceiver compatability matrix
2960X SUPPORTED MODULES
Have a look at the 4500 section for your kit

Unfortunatley I meet all those requirements and it still doesn't work. See the following thread too I found that others are having the same problem and no one seems to have a solution.

Any other thoughts?

It is the same on the X series. I put my config on the Gig 1/0/49 and Gig 1/0/50 ports and ignored the TenGig ports. If I do a show interface on the Gig SFP port I am using it shows up/up on the 2960X side but shows nothing on the other side (4503 Switch). The speeds on the 2960X are showing 1 Gig Full Duplex.

Having the same issue with a 2960X-48LPD and 6506 1gb link. Link comes up on the 2960X side but nothing on the 6506 side. Using GLC-LH-SM optics on both sides, exactly as above. Showing 1gb/full duplex, up/up on 2960X. 6506 shows optic is in but link is down/down.
Has anyone found a solution? Configuration? Software?

I know the S series had interfaces for TenG and Gig in the config, you just used the interface for the gbic you used. I.e. a 48 port 2960s had Gig 1/0/49-50 and TenGig 1/0/1-2. I have not used an X series yet, so I can't say if that carried over.
I've also seen where you need to manually set the port speed and it will create the Gig interface or it will put the TenG interface into Gig mode. Again, I don't know if this has carried over to the X series.

Mike
