GLC-TE compatibility with 4500-x

Hello,

Can anyone confirm me, if the new GLC-TE 1GE SFPs run well with 1000Mbit in a SFP+ port on the 4500-X? I don't see this SFP listed in the SFP compatibility matrix, which seems to be strange as the GLC-T is supported on the 4500-X (with both 10/100 and 1000Mbit)

Regards/

Stefan

Hi

It is the list of SFP supported on 4500X

It is not supported on "X" models just on some Catalyst 4500 modules like: WS-X4516-10GE

Hi,

Yes, this was the list I also found, but I am wondering that the GLC-TE SFP is not listed for the 4500-X, as I thought that the hardware team designed this part to be fully backwards compatible with GLC-T. Has any one experience with this and has the GLC-TE running on a 4500-X? Probably the documentation wasn't updated...

Hi

No, unfortunately I have not used SFP GLC-TE, checking the link it was revised May 1. It looks like some modules support this SFP.

No one here else, who tried to get the GLC-TE running in a 4500-x??

Hi Stefan,

I have not tried it, but the GLC-T went EoS (since 1st June) so I guess the GLC-TE is the obvious replacement. I would also like Cisco to confirm this.

Incidentally, I understand there are limitations with negotiation on copper SFPs with the 4500X platform - see this post.

Regards

James.

I hear from Cisco that the GLC-TE support is planned on the 4500X platform (in a currently unreleased IOS-XE version).

Hope this helps

James.

Hello, I just tried those SFPs and when the SFP is from china it works perfectly but from Malaysia they do not.

I had the same question and reached out to Cisco a while ago and they said it was supported, but up until now I was unable to see it in the documentation. You'll need IOS 3.8.4E according to the documentation.
