Help finding appropriate ethernet switch

Hello,

We are currently using stacks of SG-200-8 switches in a product we ship to our customers. We are going to be changing our architecture such that we need switches with the following capabilities:

1) 12-24 gigabit Ports

2) At least 8 of the ports need to be POE.

3) We need a local interface on the switch that will allow us to control the power on/off status of individual POE ports.

4) We do not "need" to have any other management capabilities.

Appreciate any advice or recommendations.

Thanks

you can use below switches.

1. CBS350-16P-2G with 120W PoE budget for 16 ports. capable to provide PoE for 8 (15W) devices or matching devices up to 120W (supports PoE+)

2. CBS350-16FP-2G with 240W PoE budget for 16 ports.  capable to power 16 (15W) devices or matching devices up to 240W (supports PoE+) this model is preferred to avoid PoE budget mismatches.

it all depends on the budget if you looking for small business switches :

If you looking enterprise-grade :

Cat 1000  Cat 9200 is a good candidate.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Thank you for the link. Just to be more specific, each of our "private networks" uses TCP to communicate to/from a HOST PC all using fixed IPV4 addresses. There is no external connection to the "internet". By what mechanism would the HOST PC be able to enable or disable POE on a specific port while running (not during initial setup). Could you point me to any resources on how to implement this?

Thanks again.

Hello,

it is a bit unclear what you are trying to achieve. What exactly do you need, a management PC ? Any connected PC can be used for management (and turning off/on PoE), as long as the switch has a management IP address configured (which it usually does),...

Georg, Thank you for your response. Currently we are using groups of 3 SG-200-8 switches. We do not use any of their management capabilities. We spend zero time configuring them. We are going to move to a POE design and will need to be able to manage whatever new switch we have to turn on/off POE in real time. I am unfamiliar with configuring and using the management IP address. So I assume then that if one has a management IP address, one could use some sort of command line interface to "talk" to the switch and control POE state (for instance)? Where would I find documentation on exactly what "commands" one might use to accomplish this? Thanks again.

I see that some of the 300 series switches that were included in the original link are now obsolete (SG300-20 for instance).

I now have a better understanding of my switch needs:

1) 16 POE ports or 8 POE ports + 8 non POE ports

2) POE = class 3

3) Ports are gigabit ethernet

4) Switch can be managed with a CLI via a local cable connection (Serial/USB) to a local PC.

Does Cicso have anything that supports these requirements?

Hello,

We have ordered and received a CBS350-16P-2G for evaluation.

Can you recommend any resources for working with the command line interface to configure and control this switch? From the basic documentation with the switch I see the web/browser interface information, but I do not see any information for the db9/serial interface/command line interface.

Thanks!

Hello,

below is a link to all CLI commands available on that model...

Much appreciated!
