Hi all,
I have been`studying´about the 2950 switch that we have here at work, and found out that i can connect to a graphical manager (CMS) using http.
I have given the switch an IP on vlan1 and then issued the NO SHUTDOWN to the vlan. my ip works, as i can telne to the switch. However when i try to access CMD i get no response for ages.
I believe that my switch hardware-firmware supports this.
Here is a sample output of my SHOW VERSION :

Can someone please shed some light on this?
Thank you,

Hi george...
ip http server is the command which enables http access to your switch from the PC.. what is the version of the software that you are using ? you need to have java plugins for some IOS.. you should also have the required hardware/software on the PC from which you are trying...
The following document gives you a complete understanding of the requirements/troubleshooting when using CMS...
hope this helps.. all the best.. rate replies if found useful...

Hi george...
Are you able to ping the CMS server from the PC you are trying to access ?? Is the CMS server and the PC in the same network ?
well.. you can use http access for the switch, by enabing http x.x.x.x (ip address of the host) on the switch, but i always advice you to configure it on the CLI..
anyway, let us know the above details and give us more information on the connectivity..
All the best...

Hi again,
I hope i dont sound stupid,
First of all, i can tell you that i am able to ping the switch and get the replies. We are both on the same subnet. My address: 10.51.12.31/24 and the switch is 10.51.12.11/24 .
When you say CMS server you mean the switch i want to connect to....????
You also mention enabling http x.x.x.x of the host on the switch.
Is there a command i need to configure for this and what would this be ???
I am showing here the basic configuration i have so far on the switch, to make troubleshootign easier.
!
interface Vlan1
ip address 10.51.12.11 255.255.255.0
no ip route-cache
!
ip http server
!
snmp-server engineID local server engine id here
snmp-server community my password here
!
line con 0
line vty 0 4
password my password here
login
line vty 5 15
password my password here
login
!
end
The rest of the configuration is just the interfaces which have nothing configured on them.
Thanks again,
George

Thanks Sachin,
My problem was th eproxy setting in the Browser (IE)
I left it on, and just bypassed the switch address.
Thanks for the help,
I will be back with more questions.
Thanks once more,
George
