How to Inter-connect vlans on cisco router with etherswitch installed (NM-16ESW)?

Hey,

I'm pretty new to Cisco commercial equipment's but I'll get straight to the point.

I have a Cisco 2650 with a NM-16ESW module installed, I have vlan 10, 30, 80, 99, and 150 setup.  I have a DHCP server handling IP addresses for all the vlans according to the ports they are set to.  This is done by assigning IP addresses to each vlan along with a IP helper-address to the DHCP server.

Vlan 10 are the servers, vlan 30 are the pc's, etc... I cannot communicate between the vlans and everything I have read has a separate router and switch setup which doesn't work for me.

I have heard about bridge-group but found very little on the subject, can anyone please share their experience and expertise on the matter.

Thanks

That is correct I can ping the DHCP server and the IP's of each vlan interface but nothing else, I have thought of the issue being in the DHCP server it's self, but found nothing wrong.

I have a PBX server and another client running on vlan 10 and cannot be pinged from vlan 30.

sh ip route:

   10.0.0.0/24 is subnetted, 2 subnets
C       10.10.10.0 is directly connected, Vlan10
C       10.10.30.0 is directly connected, Vlan30

sh arp:

Protocol  Address          Age (min)  Hardware Addr   Type   Interface
Internet  10.10.10.10             0   001e.4ff3.81e9  ARPA   Vlan10
Internet  10.10.10.11           220   001e.4ff3.81e9  ARPA   Vlan10
Internet  10.10.30.1              0   5c26.0a0e.5cfe  ARPA   Vlan30
Internet  10.10.150.254           -   000b.4637.9240  ARPA   Vlan150
Internet  10.10.99.254            -   000b.4637.9240  ARPA   Vlan99
Internet  10.10.80.254            -   000b.4637.9240  ARPA   Vlan80
Internet  10.10.30.254            -   000b.4637.9240  ARPA   Vlan30
Internet  10.10.10.254            -   000b.4637.9240  ARPA   Vlan10

I found the issue, the device I was ping was the PBX server and that is what is not responding, all other devices are responding I definitely appreciate the help I received and sorry for the simple resolution.

Thanks for letting us know that you have got the problem solved. In the end it turned out to be a simple issue with a single device. Along the way we might have solved an issue and at least good lessons were learned about enabling ip routing (and that by default it does not show up in the config when it is enabled) and lessons about vlan interfaces and what causes them to be up or to be down, and that we can not route for an interface and its subnet if the interface is down. So it has been a worthwhile discussion. These forums are excellent places to learn about networking and I hope to see you continue to be active in the forums.

So that we have a clear understanding of the current status would you post the output of the commands show ip interface brief and of show ip route done while hosts are connected and active in at least two vlans? It might also be helpful if you post the output of the command show arp.

Are you saying that from a device in the PC vlan that you are successful in ping to the DHCP server (which is in the server vlan)? If so that is a demonstration that the router is routing traffic between vlans. If you are not able to ping other devices in the server vlan than it is something other than a routing problem.

While I agree with Sam that sometimes it helps to clear the config and start over I am not sure that we are at that point for this issue.

There is something very strange about this sh ver: the model number shows to be a 2650. However the 2650 maxed out at 16 MB F/64 MB DRAM. The IOS naming was also different, the naming shown in your IOS didn't come along until the 2600XM devices. I went back to look at old routers and here is what I found:

This may be nothing but it is curious that the model shows to be 2650 rather than 2650XM. Everything else in the sh ver matches the 2650XM except the model. I would like to see a sho inv output. If the device is actually a 2650 I don't think it will run the 12.4 IOS properly..

I issued the IP routing command, then copy run start, then reload.  After it reloaded I ran sh IP route and still the same in the packet tracer I removed the IP addresses and vlans and re-added them after the IP routing and reboot to no avail.

I might try having the router deal with the DHCP as I saw in your config.
