How to login into Switch Processor (SP) on 6500?

I was unable to login by issuing the command "remote login switch" as it is not recognized as a valid command:

How do i Access/Login to the Switch processor? and How to see the Layer 2 fuctions of this switch?

On the MSFC

show cdp nei det

That should give you the IP add of the L2 swich

Telnet to that address

It looks like your switch is running hybrid which means it runs CatOS on the SP and IOS on the RP.  You are logged into the RP. 

Basically when using hybrid you should login to the SP first and then you can get to the RP by issuing the command -

session 15

this will log you into the RP which runs IOS. When you want to go back to the SP just type "exit" and it drops you back to the SP.

The SP should have a management interface sc0 which you can assign an IP to so you can connect remotely. If this hasn't been assigned you are going to have login at the console and assign an IP and default gateway to the SP. Once this is done you can then login into the SP and move between the SP and RP using the session command as described above.

The L2 setting such as vlans/trunks etc. are all CatOS commands so it won't be like IOS.

Thanks for the info Jon. What i dint recongnize in the begining was, the L2 & L3 fuctions of the swtich had Different Hostnames assigned to them. I was using the L3 Hostname instead of first using the L2 Hostname for logging in.

Now that i logged into L2, from here used the command "session 15" to jump to L3 fuction of the switch. From L3, it was a simple "exit" command to drop back into L2.

Also, i find Vlan 1 is the Mgmt IP addr used to access the L2 fuction of the switch and it is assigned an Outgoing Port 15/1, as shown below. Is Port 15/1 a virtual port? or am i misinterpretting it?

Hello Praveen,

If you session into the MSFC you need to issue exit command.

To go back to the SP, press Ctrl+C three times on the MSFC

I tried as per your advise, but I was unable to Jump to SP from RP.

On the Msfc, when i issued the command "show cdp nei detail" i could find the L2 instance Mgmt IP. I was able to telnet via this.
