how to upload the new IOS on Switch 3570 with stack Swtich?

Dear all,

Currently i have switch 3750 2 units and now it's running with stack and power stack cable.

and i want to upgrade the New IOS to 15.x.x . is it have any problem when i upload the primary stack ( switch )? could you let me know the step to upgrade the new IOS with 2 switch stack . i have been upload only one switch but for stack connect switch to switch i never configure before.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1 - Download to flash: of master 3750 (Note - also check your have free space to load new IOS or else you need to delete exsiting 1)

Step 2 - Configure the Boot Variable "Switch(config)#boot system switch all flash:/c3750-advipservicesk9-mz.122-25.SEE2.bin"

Step 3 - Verify Before the Reload
            
         Switch#show boot
BOOT path-list      : flash:/c3750-advipservicesk9-mz.122-25.SEE2.bin

!--- Master switch.

Config file         : flash:/config.text
Private Config file : flash:/private-config.text
Enable Break        : no
Manual Boot         : no
HELPER path-list    :
Auto upgrade        : yes

!--- Member switch.

-------------------
BOOT path-list      : flash:/c3750-advipservicesk9-mz.122-25.SEE2.bin

Step 4 - Reload and Verify

 Reload the switch and verify that the switch runs the new Cisco IOS software version after the reload

Dear Mohseen,

Nice to see you advice.

i have some question to as you that :

1- Do we configure only master switch and second switch will update automatic ?

2- Do we need to reconfigure stack or what ?

3- when we connect console to switch how can we know the master or member?

i never configure the switch that connect by stack , i use to configure only switch or two switch connect by Ethernet cable.

Hi Rechard,

1. You need to copy IOS is both switches of stack follow .

2. No need to configure Stack again.

3. Use simple command to check which is master and member - ( show switch detail  - you can make with mac address and priority)

For IOS upgrade see following method - actually you can also telnet also achieve same. 

Follow above steps add below step to download IOS to master and member switch.

========================

1. Step download IOS with .bin extension

2. Copy IOS to master switch

# copy tftp flash1
>Address or name of remote host? 192.168.1.10
>source filename? c3750-ipbasek9-mz-122-55.SE1.bin
>Destination filename? c3750-ipbasek9-mz-122-55.SE1.bin

3. Copy IOS to master switch

# copy tftp flash2:
# dir flash2:
# verify /md5 flash2:c3750-ipbasek9-mz-122-55.SE1.bin

4. Verify md5 hash for IOS you can get from same place you

# verify /md5 flash1:c3750-ipbasek9-mz-122-55.SE1.bin

5.Modify Switch Boot path-list

# show boot

# config t
# boot system switch all flash:c3750-ipbasek9-mz-122-55.SE1.bin

Save configuration and reload switches - booth master switch first followed member switches.

Dear Mohseen,

i just update IOS ( c3750e-universalk9-mz.150-2.SE7) on Cisco 3750 but i have some issue with the stack cable.

currently i'm using 3750 2 unit and using stack between switch to switch and i upgrade IOS to 15.0.2. after i upload IOS and it has some issue with stack cable mean unknown between switch to switch. and it showed some message as below:

find the below link to upgrade the ios from cisco documents for Stack wise switches,

make sure you follow all steps,

use one of the following steps to upgrade the Catalyst IOS on Stack wise switches,

==>1 by TFTP,

==>2 by console

==> 3 by using application CISCO NETWORK ASSISTANT,

(personally i will recommend to use this app ) because its graphical just download the required IOS . tar from Cisco website /

==> 4 no need to upload on member switches only need to upload the Master switch
