We recently installed an HWIC-4ESW module in a 2821 router. The module shows up in "show inventory" and it shows us in "show diag" but the additional FastE ports do NOT show up in "show running-config". IOS is c2800nm-ipbase-mz.124-3i.bin.
Has anyone seen this before?
Is there a fix or is the module bad?
Thanks

Is this the only hwic installed . Maybe check the prerequisites and make sure of those.

Yep, checked the pre-requisites. It's the only HWIC installed and we even tried changing slots.
We have another 2821, same boot code, same IOS and it works fine.

Gary,
Can you post the outputs of "show diag" and "show inven".

Hi,
Couple of things:
1. The FRU in the show diag shows the HWIC 4FE as PA-A3-OC3SMI=. This is only a cosmetic issue documented in Bug ID CSCsb96090 and should not affect the operation of the HWIC. This bug is fixed in 12.4(5) and higher
2. Could not get Card instance pa_bay = 0 slot = 1 from show diag output. This output is leading me to believe that the issue is more likely a hardware failure.
So, I would upgrade the code first and see if the FRU is reflecting the right part and also if the FE ports get recognized by the router. If not, try putting the HWIC in a different slot.
If you still have issues, you may need to open a TAC Service Request and request a replacement. Ofcourse, TAC needs to their troubleshooting first and then decide the course of action.
Regards,
Arul
