I CANNOT PING SWITCH WITH LAPTOP USING CMD

Hi,

I have a challenge with a client, here is the issue.

They have 2 aggregate switches, SW1 and SW2 in branch A. SW1 got damaged during lightning , so they switched to backup SW2, now pinging the switch from branch B using cmd it is not reachable but pinging the SW2 through router gateway in branch B, it's reachable. What are the steps to take to resolve this issue. Kindly assist, i have being on this for some days now.

Not sure we have good information, how this Branch B connected to a network or toward the internet.(or Branch A)

maybe i am thinking SW1 is connected to your WAN Router processing all the request (if these switches are part of Stack)

So move the Uplink from Switch 1 to Switch 2 in branch B, if still have an issue

From branch B - Login to Switch post the configuration.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

The original poster asks about steps to take to resolve the issue. I suggest these steps:

- share a diagram that shows the topology of the networks and clarifies these relationships(what is SW2 connected to? what is doing routing for Branch A? how is Branch A connected to Branch B? what is the device using CMD for ping connected to? what is doing routing for Branch B?)

- share with us what subnet is used for SW2 at Branch A. what subnet or network connects Branch A and Branch B. what subnet is used at Branch B.

- is the subnet used for SW2 different from the subnet used for SW1?

- is there any address translation used for traffic leaving Branch A? Is there any address translation used for traffic leaving Branch B? Is traffic between Branch A and Branch B exempted from address translation?

- you tell us that ping from the router gateway at Branch B is successful. If you do that ping and specify that the source address is the LAN interface of the router gateway does the ping still succeed?

- provide the routing table for these devices

-- SW2

-- router gateway for Branch A

--router gateway for Branch B

-- whatever device provides connectivity for the device using CMD to ping.

Hopefully these steps will point toward a solution. If not we may need to see configurations from the various devices.

HTH
