I have a Catalyst 6509E, i want to connect a 512 Compact Flash in the slot disk0 or disk1, but the Catalyst does not detect the cp flash,
Three suspects:
1. Your CF is dead;
2. Your CF ports are dead; and
3. Both 1 & 2.
Recommendation: Go to your nearest/favorite electronics (or camera) shop and get a variety of CF (up to 2 Gb). Test them out and see if the logs will show up as something like "CF inserted in diskX:".
When I say "a variety" I mean numerous brands. Don't go and buy from one brand because not all brands follow the same "standard" in format that Cisco appliance will support.

Hi Leo,
I am using a new compact flash, I bought it to upgrade the IOS, I have a 256MB compact flash and its detected by the catalyst but the new one (512 compact flash) no.
Can you recommend me a compact flash brand?

Can you recommend me a compact flash brand?
No I can't because not all CF "manufacturers" follow the standard. What I can recommend, however, is to go to your favorite/nearest electronics or camera shop and buy several varieties of CF (up to 2 Gb size) and see which one the supervisor card will detect.
Once detected, use the supervisor card to format the CF. Return the un-used ones and, optionally, buy more of the ones that work (as spare).

Hi,
I bought this compact flash model MEM-C6K-CPTFL512M, before bought it, I readed that this model is compatible with cisco.

Please check if you have any spare CF card and pull one of them from any other spare chasis and test if this switch detects that.
SEcond i see that the device has booted us with the below reason:
The Cisco Catalyst 6000/6500 Switches can unexpectedly reload due to an unknown cause. The output of the show versioncommand displays a similar error message:
System returned to ROM by unknown reload cause - suspect boot_data[BOOT_COUNT] 0x0, BOOT_COUNT 0, BOOTDATA 19 (SP by power-on)
This issue is documented in Cisco bug ID CSCef80423 (registered customers only) . Upgrade the switch to the latest Cisco IOS Software release unaffected by the bug in order to resolve this issue.
