Instant Access 6800ia stack module number

Hello

I'm testing Instant Access with C6800IA-48FPD switches with VSS C6807-XL (s2t54-advipservicesk9-mz.SPA.151-2.SY4a.bin)

When I created a fex stack and added some C6800IA-48FPD switches, these switches were automatically assigned a module number in that stack.

When I created a new fex stack and added the same C6800IA-48FPD switches, they were assigned the same module numbers as they had in the previous fex (even though I had deleted all reference to the previous fex on the 6807 parent switch)

I consoled into one of the C6800IA-48FPD switches and found the following in its config (this switch is always module 2):

switch 2 provision c6800ia-48fpd

Am I right in saying that the module number assigned to a C6800IA-48FPD switch in a stack is stored on the C6800IA-48FPD switch itself rather than on the parent switch? If so, how can it be changed?

Thanks

Andy

Eventually I was able to renumber a switch in an IA stack.

I tried the following at first (from the parent switch):
https://ciscoweirdness.wordpress.com/2014/10/02/how-to-renumber-a-switch-in-a-6800ia-stack/

Oddly, global config mode wasn't available so I tried "remote switch" commands to change the switch number - this didn't work.

Followed the following steps:

https://tools.cisco.com/quickview/bug/CSCuq11044

this worked fine for me although when trying to save the changes I got the message "NVRAM Verification Failed". On reload the switch's number had changed successfully.

Cheers
Andy

For what its worth, you can renumber 6800IA switches directly from the parent now. Use the "module provision update fex xxx" exec command to renumber the switches.
