This query is regarding with ip default-gateway & default route behaviour on L3 switch...:

We have cisco 3750 having vlan ip 172.16.1.154/24.... ip default-gateway 172.16.1.1/24;

servers are connected to cisco 3750 have gateway as 172.16.1.1.

another juniper switch (172.16.1.1) is connected as trunk to this cisco 3750 (172.16.1.154).

on juniper n cisco switch there are specific static routes. if I enter default route on cisco 3750 towards firewall which is connected on cisco 3750.

how cisco 3750 will behave with ip default-gateway & default route....as this is L3 switch plays both L2 forwarding as well as L3 routing too..

1. ip default-gateway are use on the devices which are not running ip routing. If you use this command on the router or L3 switch (which are running ip routing), nothing happen.

2. default route (ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0) creates an entry in routing table (on devices which are running ip routing)

So if you running ip routing in your switch 3750, it simply ignore command ip default-gateway.

L2 Layer come first before L3 so default-gateway play role before default-route for that vlan.

Your all server/host in subnet 172.16.1.0/25 will be o to the gateway 172.16.1.1 in your case juniper switch and then it will route traffic
