Hallo,
I was about to update a pair of new Nexus 5572UP Switches, but switch told me that ISSU with L3 features were not supported. However I don't have a layer 3 daughter card installed and use the switches as pure layer 2 access switches with vpc configuration.
After a little googlefu I realized that -for whatever reason- I had a L3 license (LAN_BASE_SERVICES_PKG) installed that could cause the problem. Next step was to remove the license (why was it preinstalled to begin with?), but that failed, because "License is in use".
show license usage LAN_BASE_SERVICES_PKG told me that "btcm" is the application in use.
SWITCH# show system internal btcm info
system status : L3 Ready
0 Router Card(s):
Ok so what exactly is btcm and what options do I have? These switches will never do any L3 and I'd like to have the ISSU-Feature back.
Any ideas?
Regards
Pille

Hi,
If you can afford to have a window with downtime, the best option maybe to load the new image on both devices and run the install command and reboot them. If you can't afford to have downtime, than hopefully your server are connected to 2 different FEXes and each FEX is uplinked to only one switch and no double sided VPC is used. If this the case you can upgrade one device at a time without any down time.

Hi Reza,
thanks for your reply. Right now there's no server attached to these switches, but we bought 14 of them and before we can put them into production we need to prove their abillity to do ISSU.
Guess I have to open a TAC case to get a solution.

Hallo,
I opened a TAC Case and they confirmed that I had to remove the license first:
Backup: copy license bootflash:license.tar
Delete: clear license <filename>
clear license sprom (hidden command)
Depending on the configuration you may need to reload the switch for it to take effect.
