hello all
I hope someone can give me an idea
I have a catalyst 2948G that all the flash files were removed,
I'm trying to load an IOS through TFTP - I know the IOS is not a perfect match but I was told it should at least be enough for boot,- which might be wrong
I do not have a service agreement with Cisco so I cannot download the exact one from the Product page.
I included the output , just in case it might give someone an idea –
rommon 33 > boot c2950-i6k2l2q4-mz.121-22.EA13.bin
41:41.756266: Loading file 192.168.1.2:c2950-i6k2l2q4-mz.121-22.EA13.bin
42:25.278426: 3721946 bytes received (checksum 0x0e69)
Could not write inode: c2950-i6k2l2q4-mz.121-22.EA13.bin.
tmpfs: failed to add file c2950-i6k2l2q4-mz.121-22.EA13.bin size 0x38cada
open: on load of tmpfs image: c2950-i6k2l2q4-mz.121-22.EA13.bin
loadprog: error - on file open
boot: cannot load "c2950-i6k2l2q4-mz.121-22.EA13.bin"
thank you for your help
Guy

What is the exact model of your switch? Is it really a 2950 with 48-ports or a WS-C2948G-GE-TX? I am suspecting you have a WS-C2948G-GE-TX (CatOS) but you are trying to run IOS.

Hi Guy,
Flash is not very expensive at all these days. Since you already have the IOS on your TFTP server a few $ can put you back in business.

it is a 2948G, then in this case the IOS will not match.
then if I cannot download the CatOs from the site - I must obtain an agreement with Cisco to get a download right, correct ? or is there another way ?

Check the O/S vs switch model. 2948Gs were not a subset on the 2950 family; so, it
appears you have the wrong O/S.

The 2948G is a catos switch . You cannot load IOS on to it . You would need to obtain the catos cat 4000 image to run this switch .You cannot load a 2950 image into it .

and a 4500 image will also be a mismatch, correct ? ( tried it and it produced an error, just making sure that the error is because of an OS miss match and not because a different reason that I can fix) ..
Thank you..

The 2948G-GE-TX is a CatOS. It's core is the 4013 Supervisor II. Talk to your authorized Cisco reseller. They might be able to "find" something for you. Unfortunately you can't upgrade from CatOS to IOS.
Thanks for the ratings.
