Hi all,

I have the following issue with a migration, I actually have a 6500 (single box) and I will migrate this too , 2 Nexus 5000.  My question is, I have vlan 10 with its SVI (this is just an example) when I move this vlan/SVI to the Nexus, can I have the same Ip address in both devices ? or I have 2 different ips ?

The same will go for Spanning-tree can both devices be root?

thanks

Hello,

you cannot have two identical IP addresses for the same SVI (on different switches), as this will generate a 'duplicate IP address' error.

With regard to spanning tree, both devices can be root, but not for the same Vlan. Each Vlan can have (obviously) only one root, so you will need to configure which switch is root for which Vlan.

Is you want the same IP address on both Nexus's. you could look into HSRP
