Modifying VSS config on one switch

Hi All,

Scenario:-

I have set-up VSS on two 6800s and it works just fine.

I've read the design guide and best practices etc and added a couple of lines on switch 2 to delay the ports from coming up for 300 seconds.

This is all fine and well but considering it's a lab (at the moment), I want to remove the: standby port delay line from switch 2 but this doesn't show up in the VSS config.

I have done lots of research on this and cannot find an answer.

The question is:

Can I modify the switch config on switch 2 (that was relevant to switch 2 only) after the VSS was enabled?

I suspect you have to make them stand alone again???

No you shouldn't have to
this command allows for you to get into second switch while in VSS mode
xir-b100VSS#remote login switch-id ?
<1-2> chassis number

and to run show commands from second switch
xir-b100VSS#remote command ?
module Remote command execution module
standby-rp Remote command execution standby-rp
standby-sp Remote command execution standby-sp
switch Remote command execution switch
switch-id chassis number for remote execution

Apologies but back again...

So, when you do, remote login switch x, it does take you to that switch, but because it's the standby switch, you're pretty much seeing what you see on the console of the standby switch, so can't actually do anything.

The remote command only seems to let you do show commands so I'm still back at square one.

Any thoughts?

Once the switches are in VSS mode, you can only make changes to switch-1 (primary).

When you convert the switches to VSS, the primary switch will push its config to the stand-by switch and overwrite old config and that is probably the reason you don't see that config.

Knew it was the case but was just exploring options of how to modify the port delay on one switch without having to break the VSS.

Solved by making the standby switch active, then making the switch standalone and re-making into the VSS.

Wasn't too much trouble and a good example of how to replace a switch in a VSS pair.
