Need Help Setting Up My Switch CBS350 For Internet

OK so I am new to all of this networking stuff. I originally purchased a cisco switch thinking before that years ago I had a switch that takes in a internet modem Ethernet cord and makes the switch provide internet for more ethernet outlets on the switch. I'm basically looking to do the same thing here, so I went ahead and did research and bought a CBS350-8F-2G and I have no idea how it works. I thought I plug in the internet ethernet onto the ethernet slot under the USB slot and on the CBS350 and then plug my computer into the cisco switch, that doesn't work at all. Looked all over the place and literally no tutorial on how this specific switch works. I am at a lost, I bought it for around $200 or something last I check. It's just sitting around in my house doing nothing as the return policy passed. I am confused and lost on how to set it up.

All I wanna do is set up internet onto my switch and then plug and play more computer into the other switch entries and have internet that's all. Can anyone help me with this?

Hello,

You need to have access to the switch either via console cable or web browser.

Once you have access, the only thing you need to do is setup the interfaces you need to use as access in one vlan, it can be vlan1, for example.

Considering you have the Service providing modem or router, where you should plug your home PC, you connect the same cable to one switches port, and then, plug yout PC to another port on the same vlan.

This is it. No big deal.  The switch will bridge the internet to your PC.

How do one access the console cable or web browser? Also when one gets there, how does one set it up as intended in this thread? Thanks!

Console cable usually comes with cisco device. If not, you can easily by on the internet. Just search for cisco console cable.

For web browser,  is not necessary any special cable. You need to connect a PC to the switch and access using switch IP.

Open a browser and type the switch IP address. But for that, you need to know which IP address

I recommend you to watch some vídeos like this one

https://youtu.be/2pjy_7Y5_7s

I watched that video before. I plugged into the usb from my cisco device into 1 of my usb plugin in my computer. I entered the default address in the video into chrome and it just shows that there isn't anything accessible.

Usb no. You need to use some Ethernet interface

Oh I meant ethernet, but I did try usb too though. Nothing works....

Does your Internet modem is a modem/router combo? If it is just a modem, that’s not going to work. You can use your CISCO switch to get more ethernet ports, but you still need an Internet router. Basically, you connect an Internet router to an Internet modem and than you can connect your switch to the router. Also, that USB port on your CISCO switch is not a regular USB port. It requires a special cable and can only be used for console access. You do not need to access the switch’s console and probably it is not something you want to do. The switch’s GUI provides a lot more friendly way to configure the switch. However, your switch does not require any special configuration for it to work. Your switch is ready to use in its default settings.

This doesn't make any sense to me, I plug in and played but no internet....

Ethernet port from pc to switch, typed in 192.168.1.254 on chrome... Nothing, says hard time accessing the page. PC usb to switch USB, activate putty COM1 serial 9600, nothing on the console.... I recently ordered just now a micro usb 2.0 and see if it works. But I am at a lost, how in the world did this switch work like this? What's going on?

Go on Amazon and search for CISCO console cable. The blue cable with an RJ45 plug at the other end is the one you need.

cisco com configuration.pngOK so the micro usb 2.0 came through, plugged it and now I got COM3 working. Set up the pass and username but don't know where to go now to get internet working.... What are the steps?
