Hello, i got a couple of questions, We have 2k fex's dual uplinked to 2 x 5k's.

1st - Do you set a spanning-tree port type to the PC and memebr interfaces? if so which?

2nd - I do not see any ports pinned to my fex uplink, but VPC looks good.

There is no active ports on the fex but I am thinking I should see the Fex ports pinned to the po101 or the memeber interface which it shows nothing

Thx

Hi,

As for the spanning-tree, I understand how all the edge ports should work. I was wondering if the actual physical uplink and port channel on the 5k uplinking the fex needs to have spanning-tree port type XX on it?

No, neither the physical interfaces nor the Portchannels need any STP config.

sample config:

interface Ethernet1/3
switchport mode fex-fabric
fex associate 111

channel-group 111

interface port-channel111
switchport mode fex-fabric
no lacp suspend-individual
fex associate 111

Hi,

here is the command for the ports connecting to PCs or any other end device that is configured as access port

spanning-tree port type edge

101                         Online N2K-C2232PP-10GE SSI15500JQQ

As for the FEX , your 2k is online

If you issue "sh fex det" you should see all the ports.

Thanks for the reply. I do see the fex ports in the "sh fex 101 det " I was just concerned why I wouldn't see them running the "sh int e1/2 fex-intf" or "sh int po101 fex-intf" we have nothing connected to these currently and its in a data center across the country so I cannot even test them.

As for the spanning-tree, I understand how all the edge ports should work. I was wondering if the actual physical uplink and port channel on the 5k uplinking the fex needs to have spanning-tree port type XX on it? currently the port that connects to the fex uplink is e1/2 and has spanning-tree port type normal" on it. The port-channel has the default spanning-tree port type ( which I believe is normal ) so I would like to know if I need to change it? remove it? or add spanning-tree port type normal to the po101 interface, to match the physical? I looked and could not find any info on how fex uplink ports should be configured in a dual homed fex in regards to spanning-tree port type?

here is the command you can view.

show fex
show fex 100 detail

if you configured  FEX as 101, then interface name start from 101/0/1 -- so on.
